Two very talented signings have joined the band in time for their Brass in Concert appearance
The band has linked up with its two latest signings this week as they put the final touches to their programme for the Brass in Concert Championship at Sage Gateshead on Sunday.
The competition sees 12 of the world’s leading bands each provide a 23 minute entertainment programme that according to the rules, must ‘display, free of artistic restriction’, their excellence as performers of music that appeals to both brass band lovers and general listeners.
With that in mind, and having a renowned reputation for artistically innovative programmes, the band has welcomed Hayley Walker aged 19 and Scott Knight aged 20 to join them for ‘Breaking Boundaries: A celebration of the spirit of adventure...’
And without giving too many secrets away just yet, the duo, who hail from Newcastle and County Durham respectively, and who are students at the Rambert School of Ballet & Contemporary Dance in London, will be featured in the programme, as MD Ian Porthouse revealed .
“We have been very fortunate to have been able to have worked closely with Rambert over the last few years,” he said.
“Our programme is all about breaking free of traditional artistic boundaries – something we have gained a reputation for over the years, so by linking up with two brilliantly talented dancers such as Hayley and Scott we will showcase that around the brass band world once more.”
He added: “We will reveal a few more details before we leave for the contest, but we have to thank Rambert School Principal Amanda Britton and Artistic Director Mark Baldwin OBE, for allowing us to be able to work with them once again. We are sure it’s going to make a brilliant impact at the contest.”
We are really excited about working with Tredegar. Scott and I come from the north east so it’s great to be able to perform at a packed out world class venue with a brilliant band. We can’t wait - and we love the music - Hayley Walker
And following their first rehearsal together, Hayley responded by saying: “We are really excited about working with Tredegar. Scott and I come from the north east so it’s great to be able to perform at a packed out world class venue with a brilliant band. We can’t wait - and we love the music.”
