Percussion award for Alex

One of the band's rising talents has claimed an award for his impressive playing

One of Tredegar’s talented young performers has just won an award for his performance excellence.

Percussion award

17 year old percussionist Alex Evans was presented with the Ev-entz Percussion Award by conductor Ian Porthouse at the conclusion of the recent end of course concert of the Greater Gwent Youth Band held in Ebbw Vale.

Ian was the Course Director this year and was delighted that the team of tutors had recognised Alex’s all round playing excellence and outstanding organisational skills – an essential combination for any aspiring top flight percussionist.

I know his father and mother are very proud of his achievements and so is everyone at Tredegar Band, although it won’t stop him from getting a ribbing at the next rehearsal to keep his feet on the ground! - Ian Porthouse

Pivotal part

“It was great to be able to present Alex with the award as it was so well deserved,” Ian said. “His playing has come on hugely in the last few years, and he is a pivotal part of the percussion team at the Greater Gwent Youth Band and at Tredegar.

I know his father and mother are very proud of his achievements and so is everyone at Tredegar Band, although it won’t stop him from getting a ribbing at the next rehearsal to keep his feet on the ground!”
