Sop star finally gets his hands on his prize

Sop star Ian Roberts finally gets his hands on the 'Best Soprano' silverware he won at the recent Welsh Open

Tredegar’s star soprano player Ian Roberts has finally been presented with the award he won at the recent Welsh Open Entertainment contest in Porthcawl.

Ian lent a helping hand to City of Cardiff (Melingriffith) Band conducted by Tredegar’s principal cornet Dewi Griffiths (above), and even off the number 1 draw his contribution saw him awarded the 4Barsrest ‘Best Soprano’ Trophy plus £50 from adjudicator Steve Sykes.

Wait

However, as Ian and the band had to take to the road as soon as they played to travel to Aberystwyth to compete in the semi-final of the Band Cymru competition, he was unable to accept the award, so had to wait until this week to get his hands on the silverware.

It was great that Ian helped us out. It was no surprise that he won the award, as I’m used to hearing him play in my left ear every rehearsal
Pleasure

He said: “It was a real pleasure to help Dewi and the band out and I had a great time. It always nice to win an award, especially as it comes with £50 from our Band Vice-President and 4BR owner Iwan Fox!”

Dewi added: “It was great that Ian helped us out. It was no surprise that he won the award, as I’m used to hearing him play in my left ear every rehearsal.”
